The magical fusion of Shakti

BY Abhishek Mathur | PUBLISHED: 5 August 2016

Shakti was a super-group in the 1970’s comprising of the English jazz guitar player John McLaughlin and maestros from Indian classical music – led by violin player L. Shankar and also included a young Zakir Hussain (on tabla), Ramnad Raghavan (on the Mridangam), and T. H. “Vikku” Vinayakram (on Ghatam).

Two decades after the group split, John Mclaughlin and Zakir Hussain revived the set up with a new set of musicians : U. Srinivas (deceased) (mandolin), Shankar Mahadevan (vocals), and V. Selvaganesh (kanjira, ghatam, mridangam).
